Pat Brown agrees deal to fight unbeaten English champion

Pat Brown agrees terms to face unbeaten fighter for the English cruiserweight title.

Of the fighters to turn over from the British 2024 Olympic boxing team, there is only one who has truly gotten people excited.

That’s not to speak harshly of the other members of Team GB, either. Lewis Richardson was the only one to see the podium, yet his very amateur-friendly style has failed to set the professional stage alight.

Delicious Orie was favoured by more than a few to win gold in Paris, yet not only did he lose in his first fight by some debatable judging, but he would have only one professional fight that didn’t tremendously impress many before he retired from the sport altogether.

Yet there is another man who also lost in his very first Olympic fight that has actually transitioned very well to the paid ranks, and that is Patrick ‘The Bomber’ Brown.

Pat Brown (6-0, 6 KOs) is a cruiserweight with unnatural force in his hands. He possesses the type of power that can alter a fight instantly, and even quicker than that.

He is yet to go the distance, and last Friday, he was seen dispatching of the durable and experienced Vasil Ducar, who has proved problematic for even those who have fought at the championship level.

It was after this win that Brown had an in-ring face-off of sorts with John Hedges (12-0, 3 KOs), the current English cruiserweight champion.

Hedges is a tricky 6’6″ southpaw who presents an unusually technical puzzle in the 200-pound division. A win over Nathan Quarless won Hedges the English title, which he has since defended over the similarly tricky and experienced Ellis Zorro.

A Brown vs. Hedges fight would be a classic bout between a boxer and a puncher, and it’s a style clash that couldn’t help but to interest British boxing fans.

A good example of their respective ways of going about things would be their drastically different wins over Lewis Oakford, the pair’s only shared opponent.

Hedges scored a technical decision over Oakford to pick up the vacant Southern Area title.

Brown stopped him in the first round.

A clash between Brown and Hedges was originally ordered by the British Boxing Board of Control in January, yet Hedges turned the fight down.

It would appear now, however, that whatever issue Hedges had, he no longer has it. This is because the two have now reached an agreement to fight each other on a Matchroom Boxing show, with the date and venue to be revealed.

This would be a great fight to see, and it would be very interesting to find out which man is more a master of his style than the other is of his.
