Oscar De La Hoya to travel to Washington to defend the Muhammed Ali act

Oscar De La Hoya has revealed he will travel to Washington in a few weeks in an attempt ‘to derail’ the amendments to the Muhammed Ali act.

The Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act passed through the United States House of Representatives on a 30-4 vote earlier this week.

Chief among the aims of the Ali Revival Act is the formation of Unified Boxing Organisations (UBOs), alternatives to the currently recognised sanctioning bodies that create their own ranking system and have their own set of world champions.

Ultimately, the act exists to improve opportunity and protection for fighters, as well as reinforce the integrity of boxing as a whole.

The Ali Revival Act adds certain conditions to the Professional Boxing Safety Act of 1996, which was enhanced by the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act that went into effect in 2000.

The passing of the Ali Revival Act could potentially mean big things for Dana White’s ZUFFA Boxing league, which intends to introduce its own titles and rankings in place of the ones that come under the WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF.

Should ZUFFA operate as a UBO, it would be able to function in a very similar way to the UFC, who have monopolised Mixed Martial Arts.

This has generated extreme backlash from established names in the sport.

Promoters Eddie Hearn and Oscar De La Hoya have engaged in a war of words with Dana White, who intends to ‘revolutionise a broken sport’.

The Ali Revival Act will now go to the United States Senate for a secondary round of approval.

Founder of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya appeared on the Ariel Helwani Show, where he revealed:

“I have had various conversations with people from the senate”.

“They have invited me in a few weeks to Washington to speak, and I will be there”.

“No one is reporting on it, no one is talking about it, I expect the boxing public to be in Washington”.

“I feel like I am fighting this fight on my own”.

“That’s what ZUFFA and Dana are, they are sneaky, it’s all gone under the radar”.

“Hopefully it get’s derailed”.
