Oscar De La Hoya testifies against Muhammed Ali act amendments

Oscar De La Hoya has travelled to Washington to testify against Dana White’s proposed amendments to the Muhammed Ali act.

Dana White and Zuffa Boxing’s entrance to the sport has brought pure carnage so far.

Nothing more so than their proposed amendments to The Muhammed Ali American Boxing Revival Act.

The act is in place to force transparency in all deals between fighters and promoters, to ensure fighters are not exploited.

Now, why would Zuffa want this amended.

In simple terms. Zuffa have ambitions of replicating the UFC model that has had so much success in mixed martial arts.

Monopolising a sport gives them full control, something boxing has never had.

Boxing has often been described as ‘the wild west’ from a business standpoint.

Yes it is frustrating at times, but it brings pure entertainment.

Unsurprisingly, the sports existing major promoters have shown Zuffa major resistance.

None more show than Oscar De La Hoya.

The Golden Boy has targeted Dana White in a number of social posts, and has today testified against the amendments to the Muhammed Ali Act in person in Washington.

De La Hoya has testified by saying:

“I care deeply about boxing, and more importantly about the fighters who risk their lives for our entertainment”.

“I am here because I strongly believe the proposed changes to the Muhammed Ali Boxing Reform Act take us in the wrong direction”.

“Boxing was my way out”.

“Many fighters enter this sport young and without resources”.

“This is why the Muhammed Ali Act exists”.

“The Ali Act reflects that commitment to fairness and to protecting fighters from being taken advantage of”.

“It preserves a fair and open marketplace”.

“This proposal of amendments allows a promotional entity to serve as a promotion and governing body”.

“These changes align directly with what Zuffa Boxing intend to build in boxing”.

“This is a fundamental shift in power that will put corporate profits first, and fighters second”.

“It does not work for the fighters”.

“If this bill passes, fighters will have fewer choices, less leverage, and less choices over their career”.
