Oscar De La Hoya reveals level of involvement in Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn fight

De La Hoya sounds off on Garcia vs. Benn talks.

The heavily rumoured fight between Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn has gained a lot more traction over the past few days, specifically because the two have traded verbal blows online and an expected date for their clash has been revealed.

The meeting would see two very popular and very controversial fighters collide in a classic Britain vs. America scrap at welterweight.

However, before they were reportedly set to make the fight official, Zuffa Boxing was hit with cease-and-desists from both DAZN and Golden Boy Promotions due to an exclusive contract they have with Garcia.

But with the Garcia-Benn rumours currently at a strong point, Oscar De La Hoya has made a video confirming that he still hasn’t been approached for the fight.

“So, people are posting about the Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn fight in Las Vegas [on] September 12th,” said De La Hoya, “but I have yet to be approached about makin’ this fight.

“We signed a two-fight deal for Ryan with the Saudis last year. The first fight was with [Mario] Barrios, and apparently, the Saudis have chosen Conor Benn to be Ryan’s next opponent.

“Nobody’s askin’ for this fight. The fans are definitely not wanting this fight, and if it were up to me, I would have picked Devin Haney for the rematch. That’s a much bigger fight.

“But because Turki [Alalshikh] owns Zuffa and wants to help them out, he picked Conor Benn. But whatever, that’s fine.”

De La Hoya then proceeded to rip into Zuffa as a whole, criticising the company and Dana White’s presence in boxing.

Certainly the type of passionate tangent we’ve come to expect from the former six-weight world champion.
