Usyk sends message of support to Itauma.
Prior to his fight with Filip Hrgovic, Moses Itauma was considered by many people in the boxing world to be the most likely candidate to rule at the top of the heavyweight division in the future.
Though he would ultimately lose to Hrgovic, that could still be the case. Despite being stopped, Itauma showed tremendous ability throughout, dominating the action before ultimately running out of steam.
And the fact remains that he, of course, is only 21 years old. And while he may no longer become the youngest heavyweight champion since Mike Tyson, he still has the opportunity to achieve a lot at such a young age.
That is, if he can learn from his mistakes, as all great fighters do. After all, there have been a number of boxers to overcome even earlier setbacks in their careers and gone down as all-time greats regardless.
While a lot of boxing figures have criticised Itauma since his upset defeat, there have also been those who have sent their words of support. One of whom is Oleksandr Usyk, who Itauma has previously been tipped to take the mantle from as king of the big men.
The former undisputed cruiserweight and heavyweight champion made a post on social media this Monday, congratulating Hrgovic and stating, “Moses, this is not the end. Come back stronger and keep moving forward. Your journey has only just begun!”
The Itauma vs Hrgovic fight is another reminder of how unpredictable boxing can be. Anything can happen once you step into the ring.
Congratulations, Filip on a great victory!
