Oleksandr Usyk’s former two-time rival, Tyson Fury, is among the names being floated as a potential comeback opponent.
World heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk hasn’t fought since last July, when he stopped Daniel Dubois in the fifth round to reclaim his status as undisputed heavyweight champion.
With that victory, Usyk extended his perfect record to 24-0, proving once again to be too much for Dubois.
As the Ukrainian solidified his place at the top of boxing’s glamour division, attention quickly turned to who he might face next.
However, his return to the ring was delayed after he suffered a back injury.
This week, the 39-year-old attended the 2025 Ring Magazine awards.
During an interview with Seconds Out, Usyk took the opportunity to tease his plans for 2026.
He said: “Maybe [in] March I’ll be back in the ring…
“Now, I don’t know [who against]. We’re preparing about this.”
Oleksandr Usyk was previously linked to fighting Deontay Wilder, but the American has now penned a deal to fight Derek Chisora on April 4 instead.
Elsewhere, Usyk’s former two-time rival, Tyson Fury, is among the names being floated as a potential comeback opponent.
Fury has been seeking revenge on the Ukrainian ever since Usyk handed him back-to-back defeats in 2024.
Now, it seems Usyk is open to giving his old foe a third shot at victory.
‘The Cat’ explained: “I want to fight with Tyson Fury. No problem…
“Saudi Arabia, USA, it doesn’t matter [where].”
Shortly after losing his rematch with Usyk, Fury announced his retirement from the sport.
However, the Brit has since reversed his decision and is now set to face Arslanbek Makhmudov on Saturday, April 11.
While a trilogy fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Fury could be on the cards, though it’s unlikely to fall this side of summer.
