Ring Magazine pound for pound number one Oleksandr Usyk has named who he thinks is currently the best fighter in the world.
Very few have come close to Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15ko’s) in this generation.
A run at cruiserweight in the first chapter of his career saw him become the undisputed cruiserweight champion.
Defeating the likes of Mairis Breids, Michael Hunter and Murat Gassiev, all in the oppositions back yards.
Despite impressing so much at cruiserweight, few believed Usyk could replicate this up at heavyweight.
However, the Ukrainian has cut through the heavyweight division in recent years, defeating Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois twice respectively.
Now at 39, Usyk claims that he has only three fights left in the sport.
Kickboxing star Rico Verhoeven is his next opponent, with the pair set to clash in a spectacle staged at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
Following Terence Crawford’s retirement from the sport in late 2025, Usyk returned to pound for pound number one in the Ring Magazine rankings.
Speaking to InsideTheRing, Usyk declared who he thinks is the best fighter in the sport currently.
“Thank you so much to the people that support me, but I cannot say its me”.
“Now maybe its Shakur (Stevenson)”.
Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11ko’s) recently moved to Ring Magazine pound for pound number 3.
A masterclass against Teofimo Lopez (22-2, 13ko’s) in January resulted in Stevenson becoming a four division world champion.
His bulletproof defence has made the man from Newark an impossible puzzle to solve thus far.
One thing Stevenson is missing is the resume of big names that Usyk has.
At just aged 27, Stevenson is ready for all the big names. Stars like Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Conor Benn are all on the radar.
