Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has weighed in at a career heaviest weight for his fight against Rico Verhoeven.
Oleksandr Usyk has been so dominant in his run at heavyweight that there’s very little left to achieve in the sport.
Before his mandatories are enforced on him, the IBF, WBA, and WBC have all granted the Ukrainian the opportunity to partake in this fantasy fight.
Rico Verhoeven possesses a 1-0 record in the sport of boxing, but is a man that has ruled kickboxing in recent times.
If Verhoeven is to pull this off it will go down as arguably the biggest upset in boxing history.
This is because Usyk has dominated some of this generations very best, at heavyweight and cruiserweight.
Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Daniel Dubois have all had two cracks each at the southpaw, but none have been able to make inroads.
For these fights, Usyk’s weight has been as consistent as possible, but it seems he has found a new optimum for this Saturday.
Glory in Giza at the Pyramids in Egypt, Usyk has weighed in at a career highest weight.
233.3lbs is the reported weight, and he will still be in a 25lbs deficit in weight from his opponent.
However, this is nothing he is not used to.
All his heavyweight opponents have trumped Usyk in weight, but it has never proved dividends.
The one question is when is age going to start showing its affect?
His footwork, agility and speed are all things that tend to deteriorate first with age, and is this added on weight an indication of this?
