Don Charles has confirmed that no pre fight gatherings are planned for Daniel Dubois ahead of his world title fight against Fabio Wardley.
Just 10 months after losing his IBF heavyweight world championship to Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 16ko’s), Daniel Dubois (22-3, 21ko’s) is back in a world title fight.
He’s challenging Fabio Wardley (20-0-1, 19ko’s) for the WBO world championship.
Many believe the packed out Co-op Line Arena are guaranteed to see a knockout.
South London born, Dubois is continuing a run of elite opponents.
Before losing to Usyk, Dubois defeated Jarell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua consecutively.
What came out after his most recent fight however, caused a lot of controversy.
First revealed on talkSPORT, team Dubois had a ‘pre fight gathering’, to support Daniel ahead of his bid to become undisputed champion.
Furthermore, it is believed that Dubois and co arrived to Wembley Stadium late, and too many members of the team were trying to grant access.
It was heavily criticised by the wider boxing world, and head trainer Don Charles was subsequently removed from the training team.
Chaotically, just a few months later, the pair reunited, and this is going to be their first fight since.
Trainer Don Charles has revealed to BBC Radio 5 live that “it’s not ideal to have a gathering the day of the fight”.
“I’m not here to justify but they did the same gathering prior to the Joshua fight – that gave birth to the ringwalk.
“They tried to replicate that but it didn’t work. I can guarantee there will be no gathering before this fight.”.
So no pre fight gatherings or parties this Saturday in Manchester.
Will it be team Wardley or team Dubois celebrating the WBO heavyweight championship come the early hours of Sunday morning?
