Next fight for Matchroom heavyweight announced

Exciting heavyweight prospect to fight in career-best test.

The land of the giants is boxing’s premier division. They are the biggest men, they have the biggest punches, and so they draw some of the biggest crowds.

New players are needed to keep the heavyweights fresh, and the biggest names of the last decade are all reaching the end of their careers. Anthony Joshua is 36, Tyson Fury is 37, Oleksandr Usyk is 39, and Deontay Wilder is 40.

More than any other weight class, the 200+-pounders require a refresh, and a new wave of up-and-comers are now starting to establish themselves.

The most promising of these is Moses Itauma, the 21-year-old who is due to step up against Jermaine Franklin at the end of March.

However, Itauma is with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. Eddie Hearn will surely be wanting a similar product as part of his Matchroom Boxing factory.

Well, he might just have one.

Enter Leo Atang, the unbeaten heavyweight from York who recently turned 19 years old.

Atang has had four fights, and three of them have ended in the first round. The one that didn’t ended in the third.

And while these have been typical opponents for a young fighter, they have been very tough men, but not tough enough for Atang.

Now Atang will be facing his best opponent yet: Dan Garber.

Garber is known as “The Reaper Man”, and like Leo Atang, he is a Yorkshireman, hailing from Bradford.

Dan Garber’s uncle is Steve Garber, who was himself a professional heavyweight, having fought the likes of Lennox Lewis, Henry Akinwande, and even scored a knockout over John Fury.

Dan Garber, meanwhile, has been in with Thomas Carty, a heavyweight Viddal Riley, Hughie Fury, and even Moses Itauma himself. In 2025, he also went the distance with the powerful Matty Harris.

Garber is 11-6 and will be hoping to score an upset over the young prospect, but he will certainly have his hands full with the 6’6″ teenage hopeful when he faces him on the undercard of the rematch between Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington on the 21st of February.
