New date and location agreed for Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao rematch

Date and venue change announced for Mayweather-Pacquiao 2.

To compare Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is interesting, because in spite of their similar standings in the sport, they are different in a number of ways.

The main difference between them is that Mayweather’s undefeated record is often regarded as the main defining point of his career, whereas Pacquiao was knocked out twice before he was the household name he would become.

Yet they were the two best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, going on to define a generation and be almost universally regarded as the greatest pugilists of the 21st century so far.

Mayweather reigned as champion across five divisions, whereas Pacquiao reigned across eight. Their legacies are eternal plaques in the halls of boxing history.

Despite that, they find themselves rematching each other 11 years after their first encounter, a fight that remains the sport’s most monetarily successful affair.

Mayweather is now 49 years old, while Pacquiao is 47. Their professional rematch was to take place on the 19th of September at the Sphere in Paradise, Nevada, United States.

But following some confusion over the official details of the bout, the date and location have now been altered from the original plans.

Now Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 will be staged on the 25th of September at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jas Mathur (CEO of Manny Pacquiao Promotions) stated, “We never wanted this at the Sphere. It didn’t make economic sense for this event to be at the Sphere. Ultimately, the parties putting the fight together were insistent. Bottom line: We’re making more money.”

The bout is set to air live on Netflix.
