Canelo has appeared on Netflix once before, but that was in the ring when he fought Terence Crawford.
When Saúl ‘Canelo’ Alvarez retires, he’ll be remembered as one of the very best fighters of his generation, amongst the greatest from Mexico, and one of the most recognisable faces of modern-day boxing.
His career has spanned over 20 years, and it has seen him journey from super-welterweight to light-heavyweight–winning belts in each division along the way–defeat countless world champions, engage in some of boxing’s most profitable bouts of all time, and set records in his country’s long history of pugilism.
Canelo Alvarez has fought 68 times, and he’s officially been victorious on 63 of those occasions. The ability and skill it takes to reach such numbers can’t truly be conveyed.
And for a while, Canelo was seen as the very best in the world. It’s true, for at one point, every single boxing body that you could find ranked him as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in all of boxing.
That universal agreement, that lack of doubt as to who the best in the sport really was, that all ended when Canelo started to show signs of decline. Ever since, there has been no real answer as to who today’s pound-for-pound best actually is.
Right now, as I’m writing this, there are three candidates that people continually debate over.
But at one time, not so long ago at all, there was only one.
That was Canelo Alvarez.
And so, how can you speak of such an individual in a way that is proper, complete, and without mistake? How can you sum up his achievements, what he did, what he accomplished? How can you make sure you do it right?
Well, Netflix might just have the answer.
Deadline report that a feature-length documentary will be produced by the streaming giant as part of a focus on Mexican originals.
The documentary is the product of Unanimous Media, a company co-founded by NBA star Stephen Curry, and will go in-depth on Canelo’s trilogy with the great Gennady Golovkin, a series of fights whose true winner is still debated to this day.
Canelo has appeared on Netflix once before, but that was in the ring when he fought Terence Crawford. This time, however, he won’t be carrying a title into the ring, but his name will be in the title.
