Moses Itauma’s next fight to potentially be delayed again

Moses Itauma’s next fight potentially delayed for a second time.

Moses Itauma is arguably the most promising young fighter in all of boxing. Now a contender instead of a prospect, the 21-year-old has captured the imagination of fans all throughout the sport.

Destructive, deceptively agile, and possessing handspeed that no heavyweight should have, the Chatham big man looks for all the world like the complete package.

The only problem is that he lacks experience over the distance, having only been beyond the second round three times in his 14-fight career.

The most recent of those times was against Jermaine Franklin, an iron-chinned American who was able to take Itauma as far as the 5th round before being dispatched in violent fashion.

So, as he moves up towards world level, he’ll need to get the rounds in, and that is the main idea heading into his next contest. As a result, he will need an extremely durable foe.

In Filip Hrgovic, he will have such a foe. The Croatian is considered to have one of the toughest set of whiskers in the game, and he represents the ideal stepping-stone into the upper reaches of the division for the Briton.

While Itauma vs. Hrgovic hasn’t officially been announced (and we don’t know if Hrgovic will certainly be the opponent), it is the most likely pairing. And though it was originally scheduled for the 25th of July, Anthony Joshua’s return against Kristian Prenga pushed the date back to the 8th of August.

However, Frank Warren has now stated that it may have been delayed further still in an interview with Playbook Boxing.

“He’s [Itauma’s] fightin’, and we’re gonna announce the fight, I hope–again, I keep sayin’ it–but I hope this week. Fingers crossed”, Warren stated.

When asked about the date, he replied, “It’s either the 8th [of August] or the 25th, I think. I’m not sure, but it’s one of them.”

Whenever it is, though, the Queensberry Promotions boss promised that it would be in the opponent in the top ten of the heavyweight world rankings.
