Fighter on Itauma-Hrgovic card to face late-replacement foe.
Moses Itauma’s challenge of Filip Hrgovic for the vacant IBF heavyweight world title this Saturday has proven to be one of the most interesting, anticipated, and mouth-watering events on the current boxing calendar.
The fight sees the 21-year-old Itauma attempt to become the youngest heavyweight world champion since Mike Tyson and the youngest British heavyweight world champion of all time.
To do that, though, he must first get past Hrgovic, a proven, iron-jawed world-level contender who is 13 years his senior and a former bronze medallist at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Intrigue in the matchup has only grown as it has gotten closer, with fans debating whether the thing to win the day will be Hrgovic’s experience or Itauma’s precocious talent.
Because ultimately, this truly is a battle of youth against experience, and the biggest question surrounding it is whether Itauma is truly as good as many are hoping him to be.
Before that question is answered later this week, fans will be treated to an undercard of action for them to enjoy, including Sam Noakes vs. Denys Berinchyk and Constantin Ursu vs. Ben Vaughan.
Another fight that was set to feature was a cruiserweight clash between Britain’s hard-hitting Aloys Junior and Cuba’s 40-year-old former world title challenger Mike Pérez. However, three days out from fight night, Pérez has had to pull out for an as-of-yet unspecified reason.
And so, Junior (11-1, 9 KOs) will instead be facing Sherif Musah (4-2-1, 2 KOs), a 35-year-old Frenchman based in England who is coming off an upset stoppage over former English title challenger Nathan Quarless.
While it is certainly a blow to the card, Itauma vs. Hrgovic still promises to be a great night of entertainment.
