Matchroom officially announce massive unified title fight.
Matchroom Boxing have officially announced the next fight for Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, and it is a huge challenge for Xander Zayas’s unified super-welterweight championship.
Philadelphia’s Ennis (35-0 (1), 31 KOs) will get the oppportunity to become a two-weight unified titlist against Puerto Rico’s Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs), having previously been a two-belt champion at welterweight.
In the 147-pound division, Ennis picked up the IBF interim title with a 2023 victory over Karen Chukhadzhian. After a knockout over Roiman Villa, Ennis was upgraded to full IBF champion after Terence Crawford’s departure of the class.
Ennis would make two defences of his title in a dominant performance over David Avanesyan and a tougher-than-expected rematch against Chukhadzhian. He then gained further hardware when he stopped WBA champion Eimantas Stanionis, also winning The Ring title.
After moving up in weight, Ennis won the WBA interim belt at 154 pounds with a first-round destruction over Uisma Lima in October.
Long considered a talented contender, Xander Zayas finally fulfilled his potential by beating Jorge Garcia Perez for the vacant WBO super-welterweight championship in July of 2025, becoming the youngest titlist in all of boxing.
After being surpassed as world’s youngest boxing champion, Zayas would take it one step further when he beat WBA champion Abass Baraou to become the youngest unified champion in the world in early 2026.
Ennis engaged in a series of failed negotiations with fellow unbeaten American Vergil Ortiz Jr., but after talks broke down, fans called for a clash with Zayas as an attractive alternative.
Now the two undefeated stars will get down to business on the 27th of June at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, United States.
