Eddie Hearn promotion set for deal with Australian broadcaster.
It is being reported that Matchroom Boxing are finalising a deal with Fox Sports Australia to stage 8 shows a year, half of which will be pay-per-view events.
This means that Matchroom will be on the same broadcast as No Limit Boxing, the largest boxing promotion in Australia. It also means that Eddie Hearn and his company will be further building their Australian profile.
Matchroom already has a number of Australian boxers under its roof, and Hearn is no stranger to staging shows in Australia.
The most notable fighters in Australian boxing that operate under the Matchroom banner are George Kambosos Jr. (22-4, 10 KOs), the former unified lightweight champion; Justis Huni (12-1, 7 KOs), who was last seen falling to current WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley after building a commanding lead; Teremoana Teremoana (9-0, 9 KOs), the current undefeated heavyweight contender and former 2024 Olympian; Conor Wallace (16-1, 11 KOs), the Northern-Ireland-born world-ranked light-heavyweight; Skye Nicolson (15-1, 3 KOs), the former women’s WBC featherweight and current WBC interim super-bantamweight champion; Jake Wyllie (18-2-1 (1), 16 KOs), super-lightweight contender.
One name that is missing from this list happens to be the very biggest one, and that is current undefeated cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia.
Opetaia had a series of fights under Matchroom, which included several title defences. However, he left Eddie Hearn’s promotion a few weeks ago to sign with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing, with whom he will be having his first fight in March.
Another big name in the Australian market to leave Matchroom is Liam Paro, who had his title-winning effort against Subriel Matías in Puerto Rico broadcast on DAZN screens. The same was true for his very next fight, which saw him lose his title (again in Puerto Rico) to Richardson Hitchins.
Even without these two, however, Matchroom’s Australian stable is very solid.
