Matchroom announce latest signing.
Matchroom Boxing have officially announced their latest signing, and it’s a teenage amateur standout who has been tipped to make a big splash as a professional.
On the Pat Brown vs. Vasil Ducar broadcast on DAZN, it was revealed that Matchroom have signed Harley Burrows, a product of the March Boxing Club set to make his professional debut imminently.
Last year, Burrows came to attention after he won the Senior Elite National tournament in Derby. The very same day he achieved the feat, he sat ringside for Dalton Smith’s victory over Mathieu Germain.
It was during that event that Burrows met Eddie Hearn, the Matchroom boss who sang the praises of the 19-year-old following the announcement.
“Normally, you’d say it’s, like, the best-kept secret [in boxing]. This is actually the worst-kept secret because everyone has started to know about this young man”, stated Hearn.
“Unfortunately for us, everybody started to try and sign him once word got out. We won the race and signed this young man. At 19 years of age, such an incredible talent, and we can’t wait to roll him out on the biggest shows across the country, and worldwide, as well”, the promoter added.
Continuing to wax lyrical, Hearn followed on with, “A massive puncher. Forget 19, 20, 28. A massive, massive puncher that’s gonna be goin’ in there and destroyin’ people in the middleweight division.”
Concluding, Hearn stated finally, “That is the absolute key: Fight a minimum of 6, 7, 8 times a year if we can. Like I said, on the biggest stages, the biggest platforms. Not just in the U.K., but all around the world. He’s got the style that fight fans are gonna love. And like I said, I love workin’ with elite, young talent, but elite, young talent that can really punch and take people out and excite everybody? That’s gold dust, and this young man is gold dust. Remember the name: ‘The Beast’, Harley Burrows. He’s gonna be a world champion.”
