Pacquiao to potentially fight on Mayweather undercard.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are considered by a lot of people to be the two greatest boxers of the 21st century. While they were both active and in their primes, they were universally regarded as the number one and number two pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
That, of course, was a number of years ago. Both are in their late 40s now. However, up until recently, they were set to have a professional rematch to their 2015 encounter in September of this year.
There were issues with the location at first, but it did seem that everything was going ahead in that direction. Only, it would all come crashing down.
Recently, the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch was indefinitely put on hold following a series of legal issues with Mayweather that saw a planned exhibition match with Greek kickboxer and MMA fighter Mike Zambidis get cancelled.
This was the result of complications with CSI Sports Events, who were involved with the Pacquiao rematch and another planned exhibition against Mike Tyson. They claimed that Mayweather’s fight with Zambidis breached the terms of a contract they had agreed to.
However, there are reportedly now plans in place for the Zambidis fight to be rescheduled and shown on the CSI Sports Events app this summer.
After that, the Mayweather vs. Tyson exhibition would be the main priority, and the undercard would apparently feature Pacquiao in his own exhibition against an opponent yet to be determined.
That event is thought to be possible for September or October in either Miami or Dallas, and it would logically lead to Mayweather and Pacquiao rematching, with late January the rough time period for that happening.
So, perhaps we shall see the two legends throw hands for a second time after all.
