Pacquiao offered place in National Boxing Hall of Fame.
Manny Pacquiao is not only one of the greatest fighters of the 21st century, but one of the greatest fighters to ever live. In addition, he is the greatest fighter from the Philippines, and his country has produced a number of fistic greats over the years.
From the early 2000s, Pacquiao lit up screens, resembling some sort of mechanical being invented for the sole purpose of throwing punches.
Currently, he is the only boxer in history to win a major world title in 8 separate weight divisions, and he is often regarded as the greatest fighter from the continent of Asia.
There was no doubt in anyone’s minds that when Pacquiao retired, he would become a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. And he did, being inducted in 2025.
Yet Pacquiao would return, drawing with WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios at the age of 46. He is now set for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. before then.
Yet the Filipino icon has had another honour to add to his list before then, as it has been announced that he will be inducted into the National Boxing Hall of Fame.
Revealed at the 3rd Pacquiao-Elorde Awards Night, the letter containing the offer read, “The National Boxing Hall of Fame would like to induct you into the class of 2027 as our ‘Main Event’. You are the only boxer in the history of boxing to win 12 major world titles in 8 different weight divisions. You fought an amazing 22 world champions during your career. Furthermore, your gift of helping your country is deeply admired by all.
“Your courage and outstanding performance in this highly demanding sport deserves all the recognition that can be given from the boxing communities. We are pleased to be able to represent those communities as we present your induction into the National Boxing Hall of Fame.”
Pacquiao has been invited to attend the ceremony, which takes place on the 25th of April, 2027.
