Spencer Brown denies recent Fury-Joshua reports.
The showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua had become one of those fights that people in boxing had started to accept they might not ever get to see.
It has been years–almost a full decade, in fact–since fans of the sport first started properly discussing this specific matchup, and it is only now that it is looking likely to happen.
The reasoning for this comes down to many different things over quite a bit of time, but in the past, when this fight appeared to be close, there was always something that prevented it from taking place.
Now, though, it does seem that all the excitement and speculation will not be for nothing, as it has been discussed and strongly rumoured for the past few months that the two Britons will be colliding in a heavyweight clash this November.
And yesterday, it appeared the event was set to be made official, with Fury teasing the announcement on social media and reports stating that contracts had been signed by both parties.
These reports had it that the fight was to be officially announced early next week for the 20th of November at Madison Square Garden, but both Frank Smith (of Matchroom Boxing) and Spencer Brown (Fury’s manager) have denied it being that simple.
Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Brown stated the recent rumours (published by The Daily Mail) aren’t true by saying, “Yeah, it was incorrect. That’s incorrect.”
Brown then added, “I can’t really comment on Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua … All I can comment on [from] our side is, we’ve done everything we can to make this [the fight] happen in England. You know, we’ve tried and tried and tried. Now it looks like it’s gonna go abroad.
“Tyson Fury just wants to fight. He just wants the fight. He wants to get on with it, get into camp, do what we’ve gotta do, and you know, let the best man win.”
