Moses Itauma lined up for huge step-up – manager drops major hint

Manager of Itauma mentions specific fight he’d like next.

Moses Itauma is regarded as one of the best young contenders in the world of boxing. Turning professional at the age of 18, he blitzed his first two opponents before going the distance in his next two fights.

In his nine ring appearances since, he has been no further than the second round.

This is despite the attempt to get opponents who will give him rounds, as well. The tough Mariusz Wach has always been known as someone who is not easy to put over, yet Itauma vanquished him after two frames.

Demsey McKean, whose only loss was a 12th-round stoppage to the world-ranked Filip Hrgovic, didn’t even make it out of the opening session against Itauma.

Dillian Whyte, the grizzled battler who never laid down for anybody, suffered the exact same fate. And now the question is, how long will Jermaine Franklin last?

The American went the distance with both Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua, but neither were as young or fresh as Itauma is now. So, the consensus is that he will take Itauma further, but not last the full 12 rounds.

Either way, Itauma’s next fight is bound to be an even bigger one, and the IBF eliminator between Frank Sanchez and Richard Torrez Jr. has already been mentioned as a possibility.

But Francis Warren (son of Frank Warren and manager of Itauma) has stated the fight he believes Itauma is ready for in an interview with Boxing King Media.

“If it was just a case of, ‘Would Moses fight the winner [of Fabio Wardley vs. Daniel Dubois]?’, I’d say, ‘Yes.’ Take all the other bits and pieces out of it, yes. In terms of preparation and skillset-wise, and, you know, boxin’ ability and maturity, he’s there if he beats Jermaine at the weekend.”

The “bits and pieces” Warren refers to are the fact that Itauma and Wardley are both trained by Ben Davison, which represents a real conundrum if Wardley were to win.

While the Wardley-Dubois winner is a fight fans would love to see for Itauma, depending on who wins, making it may prove to be very difficult.
