Luis Nery rumoured to face former multi-weight world champion in next fight

Dangerous Mexican may be fighting former three-weight world champion next.

When Luis Nery’s career is over, what is it he will be remembered by?

Will fans recall him as the former bantamweight and super-bantamweight champion of the world? Will they remember him as the first person to drop Naoya Inoue?

Will they remember him for failing a drug test after his first fight with Shinsuke Yamanaka?

It’s hard to say for sure. It could be any one of these or all of the above.

What is just as likely (or perhaps even more so) is that he’ll be remembered for the action he produced in the ring, the wars he had with Brandon Figueroa and Azat Hovhannisyan.

After all, what a fighter does in the squared circle is what defines him to most, what makes him live long in the memory.

And that’s okay. It wouldn’t make sense to expect it to be any other way.

But however Nery is remembered, it’s obvious that he has provided excitement on numerous occasions, and those type of fighters tend to get remembered very favourably by the fans.

Either way, Nery’s next opponent is rumoured to be the biggest name he’ll have fought since his clash with Inoue.

That’s because reports suggest that Nery (37-2, 28 KOs) will be fighting John Riel Casimero (35-5-1, 24 KOs), the former three-weight world champion.

Now 37, Casimero is nearing the end of his career. Recently, he actually lost to Kyonosuke Kameda, who Nery beat that same year.

However, Casimero still carries the name and enough quality to make the fight with Nery an interesting one, and it’s very rare that a fight involving Nery is ever boring.

The fight is rumoured to be taking place on the 18th of April in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, likely at the Bishkek Arena, where Nery last fought.
