Eddie Hearn has hinted at potential legal proceedings over the matching rights for Conor Benn joining Dana White and ZUFFA boxing.
Eddie Hearn vs Dana White is a promoter battle that has sparked into a war over the past couple of weeks.
Conor Benn (24-1, 14ko’s) leaving Matchroom Boxing to join Dana White and ZUFFA Boxing was unthinkable to many.
It’s undoubtedly a sign of intent from ZUFFA, who are financially backed by SELA and Turki Al-Sheikh.
Many fight experts and fans have labelled Benn’s move as ‘one of the biggest betrayals in boxing’.
Matchroom and Hearn were the career long promoters of Conor Benn, publicly and financially supporting ‘The Destroyer’ through a two and a half year legal battle after failing two drugs test.
The pair seemed to have an unbreakable bond, but this all changed last Friday.
Eddie Hearn has publicly stated how devastated he is with the situation.
Details of the contract have widely been reported as a one fight deal worth 15 million.
Despite being signed to ZUFFA, his contract allows him to fight on Ring Magazine and Riyadh Season events, and this is the case for his next fight.
At a catchweight of 150lbs, Conor Benn will face Regis Prograis in the co-main event of Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Eddie Hearn has shared his thoughts on Benn’s next fight and the ongoing legal details.
Hearn stated: “Yeah I mean obviously got to see if [the Regis Prograis fight] is the [reported $15m] payday”.
“I can’t say too much because there’s a bit of a legal process regarding that”.
“When you get an opportunity to match, you have to make sure [the deal Benn accepted] was actually what you were asked to match”.
“We actually matched one element of the deal so we weren’t far off at all but they used the other element of the deal — the one-fight option — to snooker us and again that’s where we’ll see what happens.”.
