Lead promoter unveiled for Tyson Fury return.
When the boxing world heard that Tyson Fury would be making his return to the sport, fascination as to who the opponent would be was developed instantly.
After all, it was to be “The Gypsy King”‘s first fight back after over a year of absence, meaning he couldn’t fight someone too dangerous.
However, nor could he fight an absolute no-hoper, someone who had no chance at all, someone who would get lined up just to get knocked down.
For this reason, the ratio of beatability to credibility had to be just right, and that’s why speculation over who the man to fit the bill would be was so strong.
Truth be told, there weren’t that many names the public heard of being considered. There were whispers, though, of Brandon Moore, a 19-1 American who had previously lost to Richard Torrez Jr. and was coming off wins over a trio of unbeaten foes.
However, the most persistent rumour was the one that seemed the most likely: Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KOs) made sense. The Russian is big, powerful, and scary-looking. Not only that, but after travelling to Sheffield to beat fan-favourite British heavyweight Dave Allen in October, Makhmudov had recently made a name for himself in England.
But also, due to being stopped by Agit Kabayel and Guido Vianello, Makhmudov was also just the right amount of vulnerable. And so, his showdown with Fury was confirmed for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the 11th of April, set to be streamed live on Netflix.
Immediately, talk regarding the promoter of the event was a big topic, as nowhere on the promotional material was Queensberry Promotions mentioned. This was in spite of the fact that Fury fights under Frank Warren’s stable.
However, we now have confirmation that the event’s lead promoter will be Spencer Brown, Fury’s long-time manager.
While Brown has worked on a number of Riyadh Season events before, he is set to be approved for a British promoter’s license by the British Boxing Board of Control today.
