Roach impressed against Gervonta Davis in a fight that entered as a significant underdog.
The majority draw included some serious controversy, Roach’s opponent took a knee in the 9th round that was not counted as a knockdown.
The knockdown would’ve made the 9th round an immediate 10-8 to Roach, making the scorecards in favour of a majority decision win for Roach.
A decision that would’ve made him WBA Lightweight Champion, and an immediate superstar in American boxing.
Gervonta Davis has been relinquished of his WBA Lightweight Championship, with the former champion currently undergoing some serious legal issues with domestic abuse claims against him.
With the belt now being vacant, Roach has took to social media to express his desire to become champion.
The other current champions in the weight class are WBC champion Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11ko’s), WBO champion Abdullah Mason (20-0, 17ko’s), and IBF World champion Raymond Muratalla (24-0, 17ko’s).
Roach wants to complete the set with an all American set of lightweight kings.
In a response to a tweet showcasing the current landscape of the ligthweight division, Roach quote tweeted with a cryptic wink emoji.
This message could imply that Roach has a desire to fight for the vacant WBA belt in the upcoming future, a belt that the Washington born fighter will believe he deserved to win last March, in what would’ve been one of the biggest upsets of the 2025 boxing calendar.
It is yet to be seen whether Roach will be granted his wish, however with all American unifications a possibility for the future, Roach will be hoping he gets another opportunity at Lightweight greatness.
