Keyshawn Davis to officially feature in rematch of controversial fight

Davis to rematch an opponent he has history with.

In 2023, a 9-0 Keyshawn Davis fought a 16-2 Nahir Albright. The fast-moving prospect Davis may not have known it at the time, but that Texas night was not the last he would see of his Philadelphia-born foe.

Davis did get the win, as was planned. Though it was a majority decision, the hyped up-and-comer had ultimately passed the test.

That was until Davis tested positive for marijuana, and his win was overturned to a no-contest merely 12 days later. This also scuppered the original date for a bout with Jose Pedraza.

Davis would return in early 2024, stopping Pedraza in their rescheduled fight. He would then put together three more wins, the third being a fourth-round knockout over then-unbeaten WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk.

Davis’s first title defence was to be against Edwin De Los Santos, a former Shakur Stevenson opponent. However, the fight was pulled the day before it was set to happen due to the fact that Davis, in a bout with a 135-pound limit, came in at 139.3 pounds.

Davis was subsequently stripped of his belt, and Abdullah Mason vs. Jeremia Nakathila was upgraded to the status of main event.

As for the co-main event? That would feature Nahir Albright, and he would be facing Kelvin Davis, Keyshawn’s undefeated older brother.

Undoubtedly, Kelvin was hoping to one-up his sibling and defeat Albright in a far more convincing fashion. And of course, he would want his win to stay a win.

Not only did neither of those things happen, though, but Kelvin would actually end up losing. His 15-0 record was snapped by majority decision, and the scores that the judges rendered were 95-95, 96-94, and 97-93.

The exact same scorecards that Keyshawn had originally won by.

It was after this fight that Albright claimed Keyshawn entered his locker room alongside Keon Davis, Keyshawn’s younger brother.

Albright alleged that he was then assaulted after the brothers grabbed him, seemingly angered by his victory over their older sibling.

This series of events made Keyshawn Davis fall out of favour with the public. From missing weight to supposedly assaulting someone for beating his brother, despite having the ring moniker “The Businessman”, it appeared to many that Davis had no professionalism.

Davis returned in January at super-lightweight, stopping Jamaine Ortiz with only 13 seconds left of the 12th round. Albright, meanwhile, most recently upheld his reputation as one to produce undesired results, as he drew with the favoured Frank Martin in February.

Now Davis (14-0 (1), 10 KOs) and Albright (17-2-1 (1), 7 KOs) will run it back on the 16th of May at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, United States.

The co-main event will feature the return of Brian Norman Jr. (28-1 (2), 22 KOs), who will be making his first appearance since losing his WBO welterweight title to Devin Haney when he takes on Josh Wagner (19-2, 10 KOs), a Canadian opponent who has lost to Harlem Eubank and David Papot.

Also on the card as Keyshawn’s brothers Kelvin (15-1, 8 KOs) and Keon Davis (4-0, 3 KOs), as well as unbeaten Dominican Yan Carlos Santana-Guerrero (16-0, 13 KOs) and 21-year-old southpaw Dedrick Crocklem (6-0, 3 KOs).
