Katie Taylor vs. Flora Pili officially announced

Taylor vs. Pili made official.

After months of rumours and speculation, Katie Taylor’s final boxing match has finally been confirmed.

It was officially announced earlier today, and given a previous statement from the WBC, it wasn’t a surprise to see that IBO champion Flora Pili would be in the opposite corner.

The contest will be taking place at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland, and a crowd of 82,000 is expected to turn up in support of the hometown fighter.

A legendary figure in female prizefighting, for many, Taylor has marked herself out as the best women’s boxer in the world. Some even go as far as to state she’s the best of all time.

And so, whichever you believe, the occasion of her final bout is a momentous one, and her departure will represent the retirement of a true all-time great.

For that reason, Irish fans are strongly expected to come out in their droves to cheer for their hero.

Pili is undefeated, yet the French native will be a gargantuan underdog when she makes her way to the ring in September. It could be that she will come with everything she has, but having never fought out of her home country before, she will have experienced nothing remotely close to the atmosphere she shall step into when the date rolls around.

But no matter who Taylor would have faced, her followers would have made them feel like a no-hoper. That’s just the type of star that she is.

Unfortunately, she will be entering her fourth decade soon. That and other reasons is why she is a star that will be going out shortly.

But oh, while she burned, she burned ever so brightly.
