Taylor’s career to potentially end, according to Eddie Hearn.
Katie Taylor is probably the most influential figure in all of women’s boxing today. A pioneer who is bound for induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, the Irish sensation has directed attention over to the female side of the sport in a way nobody else has.
But “The Bray Bomber” is now staring down the prospect of her 40th birthday, and that is undoubtedly a milestone that will come with some reflection. For Taylor and her fans, this manifests in the form of the fact that she will have to have her last fight sometime soon.
That last fight is pencilled in for later this year, and Dublin’s Croke Park will serve as the venue. Or at least, that’s the intention.
That date has been rumoured for a while now, and recent reports suggest it is close to being over the line. However, an official announcement is yet to arrive.
And should that announcement not come, Eddie Hearn has now stated that Taylor may just hang up her gloves for good.
“We’re really moving in the right direction to try and get that done”, said Hearn. “All the pressure’s on from Katie, from the country, and I really want to make it happen because I’d love to be a part of it. I think it’d be unbelievable.”
Regarding the idea that Taylor could walk away from the sport should that night not take place, the Matchroom Boxing boss stated, “Yes, I think so. I don’t see a fight again if it’s not Croke Park.”
There is no clear idea of who Taylor’s opponent would be, but there are plenty of options. And should Taylor emerge victorious, what a way it would be to sail off into the emerald-green sunset.
