Kamaru Usman has taken to social media to apologise for breaking the trust of Anthony Joshua.
For those unaware, Anthony Joshua was recovering in hospital after the car crash in Nigeria that tragically took the lives of his two close friends Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.
While recovering, Joshua took a video call from UFC superstar Kamaru Usman.
Usman, who hails from Edo in Nigeria, spoke to the former world heavyweight champion as he was laying in a hospital bed.
While that conversation was taking place, someone video recorded the conversation and it has since been shared online.
This has caused a lot of controversy online.
The reason for the controversy is that Anthony Joshua was unaware of the conversation being recorded at the time.
Whoever was recording it was out of the vision of the phone in the hand of Kamaru Usman and therefore not visible to Joshua.
During the call, Anthony Joshua shared private feelings from the incident that it’s believed he was doing in confidentiality with Usman.
Now that the conversation has been shared online, the former UFC Welterweight Champion has expressed regret over the incident.
Taking to his Twitter/X page, Usman that the conversation was more about a slip of the mind than anything more sinister.
“After seeing what’s being written it’s quite heartbreaking. Being on camera that whole day in preparation for The AKO show, it completely slipped my mind that my conversation was recorded. I realized after and asked about it.
“I take full responsibility for not properly watching the video that was released and keeping my private conversation with my brother AJ private. SMH big L on me. That’s not something I would ever do to a friend/ brother”.
Credit to Kamaru Usman for stepping up and owning his mistake.
Anthony Joshua probably wasn’t expecting that conversation to be made public.
While Usman’s apology won’t stop the video from being circulated, at least he’s apologised and clarified that it wasn’t intentional.
Anthony Joshua hasn’t responded to the apology online at the time of this article being posted.
