Josh Taylor blasts “below British level” Conor Benn performance

Former undisputed super-lightweight world champion Josh Taylor has gave his honest verdict on Conor Benn’s victory over Regis Prograis.

There’s very few men more qualified to judge a fighters performance against Regis Prograis (30-4, 24ko’s) than Josh Taylor (19-3, 13ko’s).

The Scot defeated a prime Regis Prograis in the world super series final in 2019 via majority decision.

This victory was a key part of Taylor’s journey to becoming Britain’s only undisputed male world champion in the four belt era.

After three consecutive defeats over recent years to Teofimo Lopez, Jack Catterall and Ekow Essuman, the man nicknamed as the ‘The Tartan Tornado’ officially announced his retirement.

With his legacy well and truly in tact, Taylor has shared his opinions on his former foe Prograis’ defeat to Conor Benn this Saturday.

With rumours in the build-up of the American possessing a number of injuries, fans were keen to see if Benn could be the first man to stop Prograis.

Benn won unanimously on the scorecards 98-2 x3.

Speaking to Boxing News, Taylor gave his verdict stating:

“I wasn’t very impressed [with Benn], I just say it how I see it, I just don’t get the hype with Benn at all”.

“He’s had two fights with Chris Eubank Jr, but he’s not that good either”.

“I really just don’t think he’s that good, I don’t think he’s on British level”.

“I sound really critical here but I’m just being honest, the version we got of Prograis there was an absolute shell of his former self”.

“He’s not been the same for years, so for him to go in there and last the ten rounds says an awful lot about Conor Benn”.

“To come back down from 160lbs, it’s going to take a bit of time for his body to get used to being back at this weight, that’s probably a factor in it”.

Conor ‘The Destroyer’ Benn is mandatory for WBC welterweight world champion and it seems all roads are leading towards this fight taking place this August.
