Johnny Fisher announces free agency

Fisher announces that he is now a free agent.

Johnny Fisher possesses one of the most loyal followings in British boxing. A heavyweight puncher, the 27-year-old “Romford Bull” has built a large profile in the U.K. since turning professional in 2021.

Another thing he had built was an undefeated record, something that was properly put to the test for the very first time on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk 2 at the end of 2024.

On that occasion, Fisher faced Dave Allen, another British heavyweight with a very large fanbase.

Though Fisher went in as the favourite, it became clear very quickly that it was not going to be an easy night for the Londoner.

After overcoming an aggressive early start, the iron-chinned Allen decked Fisher in the 5th round. And from there, it became a rough-and-tumble affair that most observers had Allen the winner of.

Only, that was not reflected in the official outcome, as two of the three judges awarded Fisher with a very contentious split-decision victory.

Given the nature of the decision, the two ran it back, a meeting that saw Fisher rendered face-down on the canvas in a 5th-round knockout defeat, the first blemish of his career.

In December, Fisher returned, overcoming some hairy moments to stop unbeaten Slovakian Ivan Balaz. And in the latest news since then, the popular fighter has revealed that he is now a free agent.

Speaking to International Boxing News, Fisher stated, “I’m now at probably a really important part of my career, an exciting part of my career where I’m negotiatin’ my deal with Eddie [Hearn] as we speak, but I’m also in a position now where I can hear from other people at the same time.

“So, I can sort of see what’s out there and get the best value for me in terms of promotional stuff and who’s gonna push me the furthest and see what deals are gonna be put on the table.

“So, it’s excitin’, really. I’m excited to get back under the lights in front of the Romford Bull army.”

Previously signed to Matchroom Boxing, Fisher seems to be open to all options available to him.
