Jesse Rodriguez speaks on fight with Naoya Inoue

Rodríguez speaks on Inoue fight.

Naoya Inoue is widely recognised as the greatest boxer in the world. A four-weight world champion, the Japanese sensation made it 33 wins out of 33 professional contests earlier this month, defeating Junto Nakatani in most likely the biggest win of his career.

So great has Inoue been, in fact, that he is now considered the best fighter from his entire country. And though he has shown a bit more vulnerability in his last few fights, he remains unbeaten.

The well of opponents to potentially provide him with a serious challenge is running dry, with him having just about cleaned out the super-bantamweight class. Foes at featherweight could possibly pose an issue size-wise, but outside of that, there is only one fighter some fans put forward as someone who may just beat Inoue.

Jesse Rodríguez is perhaps the only fighter in the world whose dominance draws comparisons to Inoue, and with his next bout scheduled to be against WBA bantamweight champion Antonio Vargas, he will be operating only one division below the current undisputed 122-pound king.

Inoue vs. Rodríguez is a matchup that has been discussed hypothetically for a few years, but it has recently gained a lot more momentum and looks entirely possible at this stage.

And yesterday, at a Central Boxing gym, Rodríguez provided his stance on a clash with Inoue, stating, “I think that fight is inevitable.”

A very exciting prospect for the fans, no doubt. He then went on to say, “Win here [against Vargas], and I’ll move on for good from 115 pounds [super-flyweight].”

Rodríguez is currently the unified super-flyweight champion, his second multi-belt reign across two weights. Should he move up once again to fight Inoue, the entire sport will take notice.

“Bam” vs. “The Monster” is the type of fight nobody would turn down.
