Jermall Charlo calls for Canelo Alvarez clash this September

Jermall Charlo has took to Instagram to callout Canelo Alvarez ahead of the Mexican’s return this September on Riyadh Season.

It has been common knowledge that Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2, 39ko’s) will return to the ring this September, and unsurprisingly, everyone wants the fight.

Despite losing his undisputed super-middleweight world titles last time out to Terence Crawford (42-0, 31ko’s), the Mexican’s star power remains.

Turki Al-Sheikh took to X last week to confirm that concrete planning is underway for the four weight world champion to headline a Riyadh Season event.

Hamzah Sheeraz, Christian Mbilli and more have thrown their names in the mix, and who can blame them.

In a fragmented division since Crawford’s retirement, Canelo remains the commercial star.

A 20 year career so far, the man from Guadalajara has been one of the faces of the sport the last decade.

Jermall Charlo (34-0, 23ko’s) has been a name rumoured to fight Canelo for a number of years now, and the man from Texas has thrown his name into the mix for September via Instagram.

Nicknamed the ‘hit man’, Charlo responded to an Instagram reel of Canelo in training camp with the caption “let’s get it”.

Canelo famously defeated Jermell Charlo, brother of Jermall in 2023, so could brotherly revenge be on the cards for September.

Jermall Charlo is a two weight world champion, however his career has really stalled, with only four fights in the last six years.

His last fight was a sixth round knockout technical knockout victory over Thomas LaManna (40-6-1, 19ko’s) in May 2025.

Whilst the 35 year old has got an incomparable resume to Canelo, the Charlo name holds commercial weight.

Whether there’s any substance to this callout is yet to be seen, many believed retirement was beckoning for Charlo.

Could we see another run at the top of the sport from Jermall, or will Canelo look elsewhere.
