Miller in line for world title shot.
Despite being a fight between two superstars from Britain, the heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua looks very likely to take place in the United States.
Specifically, the historic Madison Square Garden is the frontrunner to be the venue, something which has bothered many U.K. fans of the sport.
Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn has made it very clear that he wants the fight in Britain, but sent Sela a list of demands for if the fight were to take place in America.
Of these demands, one was for there to be a terrific undercard of Matchroom Boxing fights, amonst them being a bantamweight unification between Jesse Rodríguez and Christian Medina and a WBA (Regular) welterweight title fight between Jack Catterall and Keyshawn Davis.
The last one mentioned in the addendum is a title fight between WBA heavyweight champion Murat Gassiev and controversial American contender Jarrell Miller.
Miller recently fought his way back into title contention in a win over Lenier Pero that saw him throw over a thousand punches, and now Anton Kadushin (Gassiev’s head coach) has confirmed that his fighter is in talks to defend his title against the American.
“A unification fight with [Filip] Hrgovic is out of the question for now, because the Croatian will definitely take a break [after his IBF title win over Moses Itauma]”, Kadushin told MatchTV. “Next, we’ll be watching the Dubois-Wardley rematch on October 17 with great interest.
“Itauma is no longer the WBA [mandatory] title challenger, and the International Boxing Association [sic] has named Jarrell Miller as Murat’s challenger. We’re currently negotiating a fight with Jarrell Miller. We’ll see what happens next. God willing, Murat will fight once more before the end of the year.”
Should the fight take place, Miller will be entering his first title bout since he famously scuppered a unified championship opportunity against Anthony Joshua in 2019.
