Jaron Ennis has sent a cryptic message via Instagram to Vergil Ortiz Jr as negotiations for the fight are in the final stages.
Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (35-0, 31ko’s) has sent a cryptic message via Instagram as negotiations seem to be finalising for the long-awaited light middleweight clash against Vergil Ortiz Jr (24-0, 22ko’s).
Boots had his first fight at 154lbs last time out in October, he defeated top 10 contender Uisma Lima by 1st round knockout in a statement victory.
The Philadelphia born fighter became the unified welterweight champion last April defeating Elimantas Stanionis at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City in dominant fashion.
Ennis, who is promoted by Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, has been calling for the Vergil Ortiz Jr fight ever since moving up to 154lbs.
Despite neither fighter currently having a world title in the division, both fighters are widely regarded as the top two in the division and the fight will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the boxing calendar.
The fight has been in the works for a number of months now, but there has been multiple obstacles to overcome.
Eddie Hearn and Boots signed to fight Ortiz with broadcaster DAZN before their last fight.
Vergil Ortiz Jr, who is promoted by Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions have had impending issues in this negotiation period.
Ortiz Jr’s manager has fallen out with Golden Boy, who have now filed a lawsuit against him.
It has been believed that DAZN have threatened Golden Boy Promotions that their broadcast partnership was relying on making this fight.
Mike Coppinger of the Ring Magazine has confirmed that the fight is being targeted for April in Las Vegas, with an announcement possible for this week.
Jaron Ennis took to Instagram to send a cryptic message to his opponent.
The story stated “Man watch out”.
This fight is set to be one of the biggest in the sport, with Ennis and Ortiz Jr undoubtedly two of the best in American boxing.
