Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis has been called out by a former undisputed world champion, as the wait for the Philadelphian born star’s next fight goes on.
Jaron Ennis (35-0, 31ko’s) has been in negotiations to make the eagerly anticipated Vergil Ortiz Jr (24-0, 22ko’s) fight for a number of months now.
Boots and his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing have been calling for this all American mega fight and have even signed with broadcaster DAZN for it.
Legal issues between Vergil Ortiz Jr, his management team, and his promotional team at Golden Boy Promotions have casted serious doubt on the future of this fight.
DAZN have put serious pressure on Golden Boy Promotions to make the fight, with the pairs broadcast deal set to expire imminently.
Despite neither fighter currently holding a world title at light middleweight, the fight has been tipped by the boxing public as number one vs number two in the division.
Ennis became the unified welterweight champion before moving up to 154lbs in 2025.
With the Vergil Ortiz Jr fight looking more unlikely by the day, Boots and Eddie Hearn are not short of options for their next move.
Newly crowned IBF light middleweight champion Josh Kelly has an agreement in place to fight Jaron Ennis.
In addition, former undisputed 154lbs king Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19ko’s) has called for the Boots fight.
Charlo has been out of the ring for over two years since his defeat up at super middleweight to Canelo Alvarez.
In a recent interview with Cigar Talk. Charlo stated: “Hello, Eddie. Please answer my DMs if you see this message”.
“I want you to set up something between me and your best fighter, ‘Boots’.”
“Business-wise, we’ve got to make it happen. I’m not a friend to none of these motherf***ers”.
Eddie Hearn aims to headline Boots in the Spring as they continue the journey of becoming a two division world champion.
