Japanese super fight Naoya Inoue vs Junto Nakatani officially announced

The eagerly anticipated all Japanese mega fight between Naoya Inoue and Junto Nakatani has been announced for May 2nd in Tokyo.

A fight destined to break records in Japan has finally been officially announced, Naoya Inoue vs Junto Nakatani.

Naoya Inoue (32-0, 27ko’s), the pound for pound number two with the Ring Magazine, is the current undisputed super bantamweight champion.

The three weight world champion has been incredibly active in recent years.

Fighters at the top level rarely fight more than twice a year.

Not Inoue though, the ‘monster’ had four fights in 2025.

His record is stacked, with an 84% knockout ratio.

However, people have suggested that the activity has taken its toll in the last two fights.

2025 closed out with Inoue defeating David Picasso via unanimous decision, the first time in his career he has gone to points in consecutive fights.

Despite this, there are no plans for a rest and a mega fight has now been announced.

Ohashi promotions will promote Naoya Inoue vs Junto Nakatani on May 2nd at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

In the other corner is fellow Japanese superstar Junto Nakatani (32-0, 24ko’s).

Nakatani’s career has mirrored that of his opponent, winning world titles at super flyweight and bantamweight.

Now at 122lbs, the boxing world are anticipating a record breaking fight with two pound for pound greats.

Nicknamed as ‘big bang’, Nakatani had his first outing at super bantamweight last time out in December, winning via unanimous decision against Sebastian Reyes.

His performance was critiqued by many, with experts suggesting that his power may not carry up at the new weight.

PPV price point in Japan will be at 6050 yen, equivalent to $38.
