Jake Paul reveals he may never box again

Paul reveals why his boxing career may be over.

Influencer boxing is a subcategory of our sport that features social media figures and other people with a strong online presence fighting each other under boxing rules.

Understandably, the ability on show isn’t on the level of a standard boxing match, and the professional nature of the fights isn’t always determined by the Marquess of Queensberry rules.

However, what can be said is that influencer fights add a wacky dynamic to a sport that is already pretty bonkers, and they direct a separate set of eyes to the discipline.

Jake Paul is one man who managed to break out of the influencer boxing circle and become a force of his own, and he fought established names in combat sport (though not in boxing) to raise his profile.

Paul would ultimately take it a step too far in December, being dispatched by two-time former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua courtesy of a right hand, a punch that broke Paul’s jaw in two places.

The American would require surgery on the injury that involved the fitting of titanium plates and the removal of some teeth, something he has had issues with since.

Closing in on five months since his last ring appearance, Paul appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show and made the claim that because of this jaw injury, he may not ever box again.

“Yeah, I’m getting some new scans here–in a couple of days–of the jaw to get an update on the healing process”, Paul stated. “We’ll see what my doctors say. I think I’ll be able to get a more accurate, like, time frame, or you know, can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm and possibilities of things.”

Going into further detail, Paul said, “I think it just depends on, like, how the bone heals. And then also, there’s, like, a tooth missing here. Like, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna have to get an implanted tooth of some sort. I don’t know how much time that’s gonna add to things, but we just have to see and figure out what the smartest thing is for me.”

This would go against Paul’s recent callout of Francis Ngannou, another big-punching heavyweight. But outside of direct activity in the ring, Paul still has a big role in boxing due to his involvement with Most Valuable Promotions, who will be showing Ronda Rousey’s bout with Gina Carano this Saturday.
