Jake Paul reveals he has undergone second surgery

Social media star confirms second surgery following Anthony Joshua loss.

Oftentimes, there are fights that seem to have too obvious of an outcome. These are instances where one of the fighters involved is such a massive favourite that the prospect of the underdog pulling off the upset is simply unthinkable.

But sometimes, these “obvious” fights turn out to be huge shocks. We have seen it many times before, and we will see it many times again.

Andy Ruiz Jr. beating Anthony Joshua, Leon Spinks beating Muhammad Ali, Hasim Rahman beating Lennox Lewis, and of course, Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson.

Upsets happen, of course. Giant upsets happen less regularly, but they do happen.

But was there ever any chance of a YouTuber whose résumé was made up of beating retired MMA fighters, semi-professional boxers, basketball players, and other YouTubers beating the former two-time unified heavyweight world champion?

When Jake Paul took on Anthony Joshua, there wasn’t a soul expecting him to win. And of course, he didn’t.

Even with Joshua’s year-long inactivity and coming off a very bad loss, Paul was never in the fight. After circling the ring countless times, Paul finally tired and was promptly dropped twice in the 5th round.

In the 6th, he was taken out by a right hand directly to the chin. And long before the then, it was clear that Jake Paul was no Andy Ruiz Jr.

We found out shortly after the fight that the right hand Paul absorbed–which deposited him on the canvas for the third time–had broken his jaw in two places, which required the fitting of two titanium plates and the removal of some teeth.

Exactly two months following this news, Paul has confirmed on his personal Instagram account that he has had to undergo a second surgery due to the screws and plates coming loose.

This was apparently due to not having rested for the two months following the initial surgery, according to Paul.

Whether Paul will continue his boxing career isn’t known for sure, but that jaw is likely to become a persistent issue that he will have to be very careful to avoid damaging again.
