American star showed a kind gesture to a small club in Wales.
Jake Paul represents what is probably boxing’s biggest wildcard.
A former Vine star, Disney Channel actor, and YouTuber, Paul first tried his hand at boxing when he engaged in an exhibition bout with Deji Olatunji–the brother of KSI–on the undercard of KSI’s fight with Logan Paul, Jake’s older brother.
Paul would make his professional debut by beating another YouTuber in AnEsonGib before knocking out basketball player Nate Robinson.
And since, Paul has gone on to fight MMA stars and draw huge numbers on Netflix for novelty bouts against Anthony Joshua and a 58-year-old Mike Tyson.
Certainly, the American’s pathway into the sport has been unorthodox, to say the least. And as a result, he has become a very contentious figure.
However, many praise Paul for his contributions to the women’s side of the sport and being an advocate for female boxers as a whole, which has seen him have a role in putting on stacked cards with his Most Valuable Promotions company.
Now another of Paul’s actions has been brought to light for positive reasons, as members of Cwmavon Hornets ABC (a boxing club in Cwmavon, Port Talbot, Wales) have spoken on a donation Paul made to them following the death of their head coach in August of 2025.
Their coach was Nigel Davies, the founder of the club who had worked with the likes of Anthony Joshua and Joe Cordina over the course of his career. Davies was also a coach during the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
Paul’s donation of 16 pairs of boxing gloves was one that the club had difficulty believing was legitimate, with Gethin Davies (son of Nigel Davies) saying, “When I first saw it, I thought it was fake.”
Paul became aware of the club through former Hornets boxer Ethan Gilbert, who is now part of Paul’s media team.
This kind gesture from Paul certainly shows that there is a deeper layer to a man who many regard as a sideshow attraction in boxing.
