Jake Paul makes big offer to boxing superstar.
There are as many opinions about Jake Paul as just about anyone in boxing today. Some consider him to be something of a pariah, a travelling circus whose main act is a performer with gloves to match the colour of his nose.
Still, some appreciate his presence in the sport, seeing him as somewhat of a novelty act that represents a more light-hearted figure in a profession with all too many dark moments.
Whatever you happen to think of him, he gets people talking. And what’s more, he is one of the biggest draws there currently are, providing a big-money opponent for anyone he happens to fight.
This was displayed in December when he took on Anthony Joshua, a fight Paul was always destined to lose. On that night, Paul eventually ran out of steam and was taken out after six frames.
The right hand that dispatched him broke his jaw in two places, and it is this injury that Paul stated could very well mean the end of his pugilistic career.
Yet just days later, he has now revealed in a stream a multimillion-dollar offer to one of the biggest names in boxing.
Showing a video of him talking to Canelo Álvarez over the phone, Paul claimed that the Mexican superstar requested $200 million for the two to face off with each other.
Paul then proceeded to say, “Canelo, I have the $200 million for you. Easy money. Jake Paul vs. Canelo, let’s get it done. This is what the fans have been waiting for. This is the biggest fight that can possibly be made in boxing.
“Canelo said he’s down on the phone, so we’re gonna make it happen. I have the 200 million, and I think that’s gonna be the next fight. So, sign the contract, Canelo. Much respect to you. Let’s make the biggest fight in boxing happen.”
The social media star then stated that this was “official”.
It is unknown what an encounter between the super-middleweight Canelo and the (usually) cruiserweight Paul would look like and how exactly it would be put together.
But considering Paul was set to fight lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in an exhibition last year, it’s likely that something could be agreed between the two.
But with Canelo expected to fight WBC champion Christian Mbilli in Saudi Arabia, it’s a wonder if he would choose the money over the glory.
Strange things tend to happen in boxing, especially when enough money is on the table.
Jake Paul just said Canelo Alvarez will be his next fight and he’s paying him $200M 🤯
