Inquest to open into the death of boxing icon Ricky Hatton

An inquest into the death of British boxing icon and former world champion Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton is set to take place.

The passing of the legendary Ricky Hatton (45-3, 32ko’s) at age 46 last September left the sporting world in shock.

His passionate fans knew him as ‘The Hitman’, Hatton captured the imagination of the British public during his stellar career.

Hatton’s relatability to the public has seen him go down as one of the most universally loved fighters in the sports history.

Famous trips to Las Vegas to fight the sports very best in Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27ko’s) and Manny Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39ko’s) were highlights of a 15 year career.

The Mancunian and die hard Manchester City fan was a super lightweight world champion.

On Sunday, 14 September 2025, Hatton’s manager Paul Speak, arrived at Hatton’s home in Hyde, Tameside, to collect him for a flight to Dubai.

He found the former champion unresponsive.

During retirement, Hatton always found himself in and around boxing.

Famously, Conor Benn (24-1, 14ko’s) was looked after by Ricky during the early stages of Benn’s move to the UK.

His funeral in October 2025 was attended by the likes of Wayne Rooney, Tyson Fury and Liam Gallagher.

An inquest into the icon’s death will be held.

A hearing at Stockport’s Coroner Court will take place today.

Everyone at Boxing King Media continues to share their thoughts and feelings to everyone connected to the late great Hitman.
