Conor Benn reveals names of two boxers he could face next

The British boxing star has named his next potential opponents.

Over the last few years, Conor Benn and his relationship with the British boxing public has been rocky, to say the least.

Everyone knows the story of what happened shortly before his first fight with domestic rival Chris Eubank Jr. over three years ago.

Just three days before the contest was set to take place, Benn tested positive for clomifene. Though there was a brief period of confusion regarding the fate of the card, the entire show was ultimately pulled as a result of the positive test.

This proved to provide extra fuel to the Benn-Eubank Jr. rocket and became the subject of much of the verbals and happenings surrounding the fight week build-up to the pair’s first fight, including a famous scene where Eubank Jr. slapped Benn across the face with an egg (something World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman blamed the excessive consumption of on the failed test) during a face-off.

In the first encounter between the two sons of boxing legends, Conor Benn lost a terrific battle to suffer the first defeat of his career. Later that same year, Benn gained his revenge over Eubank Jr. in a dominant display that saw him score two knockdowns over his rival.

Since then, the next moves of ‘The Destroyer’ have been of great interest to fans. And in a recent interview with iFL TV, Benn (24-1, 14 KOs) named two opponents he could be facing next.

He stated, “We’ve got ‘Rolly’ [Romero] there. ‘Rolly’ is a fight we’d love to make. If we don’t make progress with any other developments by the end of the month, then we pull the trigger on getting the ‘Rolly’ fight made.”

And upon being asked whether his next fight will certainly be for a world title or not, Benn replied, “That’s without a shadow of the doubt.”

Benn is in mandatory position to challenge the winner of the upcoming bout between Ryan Garcia and Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title, and on the subject of that fight, he said, “I’ve been made mandatory by the WBC to fight Barrios or Garcia. We want Garcia to win, but the WBC belt is the belt I want, whether that’s Barrios or Garcia.”

Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero is the holder of the WBA title, which he won after being upgraded following his victory over Ryan Garcia, and has been the subject of speculation as the next opponent for Benn.

If it’s Garcia, Barrios, or Romero next, it appears that Conor Benn could very well be in the running to become Britain’s newest world champion.
