Heavyweight required brain scan after bizarre fight with Dave Allen

Fan-favourite heavyweight received brain scan after strange fight.

It was on the weekend that we saw Irish boxing legend Katie Taylor call time on her career, going out by defeating Frenchwoman Flora Pili and becoming undisputed world champion for the third time in her incredible career.

The event took place at Croke Park in Dublin, with an atmosphere very much fit for the farewell of an all-time great of the sport. And it was understood that no matter what else took place on the card, the night belonged to Taylor.

That was despite vicious, dominating performances from the likes of Taylor Bevan, Paddy Donovan, and Adam Olaniyan. Indeed, Pili herself–despite being one half of the headline act–was hardly spoken of throughout, such was the Taylor-focused nature of the show.

However, the co-main event would also get people talking due to the truly odd way that it would ultimately end up unfolding.

The heavyweight bout between ticket-sellers Dave Allen and Thomas Carty would reach an abrupt conclusion when Carty fell out of the ring with less than two minutes gone of the very first round. After several minutes of confusion, both boxers exited the room and the fight was declared a no-contest.

It has now been confirmed that Carty underwent a brain scan following the contest, with the Irishman’s team seeking to overturn the decision to a disqualification win.

This hinges on the claim that Carty’s fall was caused by punches delivered to the back of the head from Allen, who himself has stated he is looking for the contest to be turned into an official victory on his record.

Having been perhaps the most anticipated fight of the undercard, it is likely that the two fan-favourite big men will run their encounter back before long.

It is understood that Carty is healthy and currently recovering at home.
