Hamzah Sheeraz’s opponent has been revealed ahead of his WBO world title fight.
Hamzah Sheeraz is gearing up to challenge for world honours after dominating Edgar Berlanga with a stoppage win last July.
The rising British star returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, making a statement in the ring stateside.
Last month, Sheeraz learned he could be competing against Diego Pacheco for one of the belts vacated by Terence Crawford following his retirement.
But earlier this week, Pacheco pulled out of his ordered matchup, forcing Sheeraz to find a replacement just hours before the scheduled purse bid.
The World Boxing Organisation has since confirmed via X that Sheeraz will face Germany’s Alem Begic (29-0-1, 23 KOs) for the vacant super middleweight title.
WBO President Gustavo Olivieri revealed that the clash of unbeaten contenders will take place in May, in Manchester.
Begic hasn’t fought since knocking out unbeaten Mahdi Safdari in the second round on April 15 last year in Denmark.
His record currently sits at an impressive 29-0-1 (23 KOs), m
The 38-year-old will step into his first major title fight, and only his second scheduled 12-round bout, after more than 11 years as a professional.
Hamzah Sheeraz presents a new set of challenges for him, and the German contender will be eager to pull off an upset on UK soil.
