Vianello names two heavyweights who gave him tougher rounds than Itauma.
Almost all of the United Kingdom has gotten behind Moses Itauma by this point, with the 21-year-old phenom considered by most to be the nation’s next world heavyweight champion.
Not only that, but plenty see him ruling the division for many years. And if he were to beat Filip Hrgovic to win the vacant IBF title tomorrow night, he would be one step closer to fulfilling these expectations.
On the undercard of his big fight, though, there is another British heavyweight named Moses, as Moses Jolly will be taking on Italian contender Guido Vianello as part of the supporting cast.
An experienced former Olympian, Vianello has sparred many of the big names at heavyweight, and he has spoken on sparring Itauma himself and two other fighters who have him a tougher time.
“I sparred with Moses when he was 17”, said Vianello. “I remember that day because he was strong when he was 17. He’s stronger now. So, yeah, I look at Moses and his career, and it’s amazing. It’s a surprise for everybody.
“So, it will be a great fight [Itauma vs. Hrgovic]. I want to watch that fight. I want to win my fight, then get the popcorn and watch the main event. Because I know Hrgovic, too. Filip is strong. We were amateurs together 15 years ago. He knows how to fight in the long distance.
“So, yeah, I want to see Moses in more rounds. I want to see what’s up in this situation.”
As for who gave him the toughest rounds, Vianello stated, “My hardest sparring was with [current WBA heavyweight champion] Murat Gassiev, because I was really young, [it] was my first period in America, and because my first coach was Abel Sanchez.”
Vianello continued, “Then I can say Tyson [Fury], because Fury is the smartest heavyweight I’ve ever seen.”
Fans will get to see just how good Itauma really is when he faces Hrgovic tomorrow.
