Gervonta Davis has been out of action for the past 16 months.
During that spell, Davis is believed to have been training under Jose Benavidez Sr.
Benavidez Sr is the father and coach of unified cruiserweight and WBC light-heavyweight champion David Benavidez.
According to Abraham Gonzalez of FightsATW, the pair began training together a few weeks ago in South Florida.
It remains unclear what this means for Davis’s long-time corner team of Calvin Ford and Kenny Ellis.
The pair have worked with the three-division champion since he was just seven years old.
If they remain involved, it is likely to be in a reduced role going forward.
When is Gervonta Davis’s next fight?
Davis has not fought since his controversial draw with Lamont Roach in March 2025.
The bout featured a disputed moment, with Roach denied a knockdown in the ninth round.
‘Tank’ was ordered to defend his lightweight title against Floyd Schofield in May.
However, he has shown little interest in pursuing the bout.
In light of that, it’s expected that Gervonta Davis will return to the ring in early autumn.
His advisor, Al Haymon of PBC, is taking a cautious approach to setting an exact date.
This comes amid the Baltimore boxer’s ongoing legal issues.
Davis is seemingly pursuing a bout with WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney for his return.
