George Liddard to defend British title against former European champion

British champion set to defend against dangerous domestic player.

George Liddard is considered to be one of the best young fighters in Britain. ‘The Billericay Bomber’ trains out of the Matchroom Elite Boxing Gym, which also houses another very promising young middleweight in Jimmy Sains.

Ever since a stoppage victory over George Davey, Liddard has been garnering attention. This has continued to grow along with the improvement of his performances.

Liddard took on good operator Derrick Osaze and beat him by decision just under a year ago, then promptly blasted out former Southern Area champion Aaron Sutton.

But as for the best win of Liddard’s career? That would be over Kieron Conway, the experienced contender who was on a good run of form and owned the British and Commonwealth titles. He also had never been stopped, not even by Austin Williams.

Liddard changed that.

Since defying the expectations of many with that victory, Liddard’s next opponent has been the subject of much speculation.

Rumours stated a Matchroom Boxing card in London in March would be the setting for Liddard’s next fight, and it came out last week that former world champion Liam Smith had turned down the opportunity to be in the opposite corner.

Now, however, it seems George Liddard will be facing a different opponent in Tyler Denny.

Denny is the former Midlands Area, English, and European middleweight champion. And despite some early blemishes on his record, he quickly became a big problem for anyone on the British middleweight scene.

A majority-decision loss to Linus Udofia seemingly awoke something inside of Denny, as it was then that he went on to take the undefeated records of Derrick Osaze (an opponent he and Liddard share), River Wilson-Bent, Bradley Rea, and Brad Pauls in consecutive fights.

Following a pair of wins over Macaulay McGowan and Matteo Signani, Denny proceeded to snap another unbeaten record. This time, it was that of Felix Cash.

For some reason, Denny had proven to be just a bit too tricky to figure out all of a sudden.

And then he was blown through by Hamzah Sheeraz in two rounds.

Since then, Denny has put together a couple of wins over the respectable Elvis Ahorgah and trial horse Grant Dennis.

Denny represents a very tough test for such a young fighter. He has taken the zero from many undefeated contenders’ records, and should be very careful to make sure the same doesn’t end up happening to him.

It’s a testament to how quickly Liddard is being moved that Denny is to be his next opponent, as well as how much his team believes in him.

In a fight between George Liddard (13-0, 8 KOs) and Tyler Denny (21-3-3, 1 KO), we will either see a promising contender pass an acid test or get badly burnt while attempting to do so.
