New additions made to undercard of heavyweight bout.
Heavyweight fights are always the ones boxing fans get the most excited for, and it’s no wonder why. Of course, the biggest division naturally has the biggest men, and the biggest men carry the biggest punches. Therefore, the chances of a knockout are higher than at any other time.
Hardly anybody in boxing has encapsulated the anticipation of a knockout quite like Deontay Wilder. The American heavyweight possesses 43 KOs in 44 wins and is very possibly the most powerful puncher of our time.
Despite that, he is on a downward slide and is nearing the end of his career, which is part of the reason his fight against Derek Chisora is so fascinating.
While Chisora has never been the one-punch ghoul that Wilder was, he has always been as tough as they come, and his willingness to carry on despite 13 losses has made him a favourite amongst British fight fans.
Earlier this week, the first undercard fight was announced: Viddal Riley vs. Mateusz Masternak for the European cruiserweight title.
Today, two more fights were announced as part of the show.
The first of these fights is an all-British heavyweight showcase between Matty Harris (9-1, 6 KOs) and Franklin Ignatius (9-1-1, 1 KO).
Harris is one of the hardest pure punchers at the weight, but was surprisingly stopped by eternally tough journeyman Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko in 2023. He has won four since, most recently beating Dan Garber on points and dropping him twice.
Ignatius, meanwhile, is an Austrian-born 30-year-old who has fought Jeamie TKV (though he lost). Apart from that, he has beaten Steve Robinson, which is the most substantial win of his career.
The second fight is a long-awaited collision between Denzel Bentley (21-3-1, 17 KOs) and Endry Saavedra (17-1-1, 14 KOs) for the WBO interim middleweight title.
This bout was rumoured long before it was officially announced, and it’s an absolute scorcher of a contest between two monstrous 160-pound punchers.
Bentley is a three-time British champion who won the title for the third time against Brad Pauls in December of 2024. This is the most recent time Bentley was seen in the ring, as he was absent for the entirety of 2025.
Saavedra is a Venezuelan who initially made his bones in Mexico before making his name in Australia. A four-knockdown war with Cesar Matio Tapia in America really put him on the map, and he was last seen stopping Mikkel Nielsen.
With the WBO and IBF middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly currently undergoing an investigation for a failed drug test in early December, it’s very likely that Bentley-Saavedra will be made for the full WBO title or the winner will be upgraded afterwards.
Bentley has actually fought for the WBO title before against Janibek himself, coming up just short on American soil in a very spirited effort.
The rest of the Chisora-Wilder card will surely be announced shortly, and it is already one of the most loaded shows of the year.
