Frank Warren reveals when all-British heavyweight showdown could take place

Warren reveals when all-British unification could happen.

This week, on Saturday, we will be seeing a very interesting heavyweight clash at the world level. This is because Britain’s up-and-coming 21-year-old heavyweight force Moses Itauma will be facing the tried and tested Filip Hrgovic in an affair that will pit youthful talent against proven experience.

While this matchup was great on its own merit, it featured an almighty boost recently when world-ranked contender Frank Sanchez accepted a step-aside fee for the bout to be fought for the vacant IBF world title, provided the winner faces him next.

And so, should either man win, they will make history in their own way. If Itauma claims victory, he will become the youngest British heavyweight world champion in history (and the second-youngest regardless of nationality), while Hrgovic will become the very first Croatian to hold a major heavyweight title.

But either way, it will be one more heavyweight champion for Queensberry Promotions, whose stable also includes WBC champion Agit Kabayel and WBO champion Daniel Dubois. And in the event that Itauma emerges victorious, Queensberry boss Frank Warren has revealed when an all-British heavyweight unification could take place.

“It [a fight between Itauma and Daniel Dubois] won’t be made straight away”, Warren stated to talkSPORT Boxing. “I would make that in a few fights’ time, providin’ they both come through [their next bouts].

“Because [the rematch between] Fabio [Wardley] and him [Dubois], we will announce that date–hopefully–over the weekend, and they will have to get on with it.

“So, that fight [between Itauma and Dubois]–when it does take place–has to go on in the summer in a football stadium. So, that’s where we are [at the moment].”

Should it take place, Moses Itauma vs. Daniel Dubois promises the type of fireworks only truly exciting fights can deliver.
